Nintendo Press Conference Notes

Nintendo, again, really doesn't do much for gamers this year yet again. They appeal to the younger crowd, and those who love gimmicks, but nothing more. There were a few announcements of titles coming to their new system, but that merely means they're catching up to Sony and Microsoft.

Zelda 25th Anniversary
They started the show with a big and boring focus on Zelda, with an orchestra playing songs. They highlighted a few things about Zelda, nothing that was new information though. They talked about Zelda in many forms, but nothing spectacular.

3DS Games We've Already Known About
Mario Kart, Starfox, Mario, and Kid Icarus were talked about. None of them were given dates, but all of them should be out this year. There wasn't a whole lot of information on these games aside from a trailer for each. They look good, but nothing groundbreaking.

Luigi's Mansion 2
This game doesn't really look great, but will be on the 3DS. There weren't a bunch of details, nor a release date, but at least they mentioned it.

Wii U
Well, they've finally announced it, and the name is pretty strange. I'm not sold on it, and I don't think others will be at first either. They promised many 3rd party developers, but its a console in between generations. They didn't really say if its an entirely new console, or just a controller, but either way, it will definitely be costly. Batman Arkham City was confirmed for it, as well as an Assassin's Creed game. It definitely has some interesting uses, but its really, really gimmicky. Its a controller with a screen, but can't be used as a handheld. Its rather confusing at this point, but who knows. Its still not graphically as capable as the PS3 and 360, but is getting there.

Unfortunately, people are going to say Nintendo wins, merely because they're announcing games that are already available for other systems, and look better. They, in my eyes, really didn't announce much, and just confused more than anything. Especially Myamoto being talked over by his translator for half of the show. I have a feeling developers are going to get tired of making things for both the controller and the screen. We'll see soon, but I have a feeling it will take away time from developing games for PS3 and 360.

Overall Rating: C+
